Can you use geothermal heating to heat a home?
Is this technology out there at the moment? Are there actual geothermal contractors installing this? I heard it pays for itself after 10 years. If that’s the case, why isn’t it more prevalent in American homes?
Yes, I use it to heat and cool my home through the use of a geothermal heat pump. I live in Wisconsin in a 2000 sq ft home. The complete heat pump installed was $18,000. Incentives like tax rebates and even some grants are available to help pay for it. It now costs about $400 to heat and cool my home for a year. I had been using about 1000 gallons of propane to heat and probably $250 of electric to run the AC in summer. I have had it 3 years and it is well on its way to paying for itself.
