Do Republicans understand that true Energy Independence requires a non-fungible & Renewable energy source?
Something that can’t be drilled or mined here then sold to another country by anyone.
Conservatives understand this better than you know. However they also know that holding a gun to the head of the economy, forcing to accept Green Energy Solutions is not the way. Obama is intentionally willing to let energy costs skyrocket in order to achieve green initiatives. He said this in his own words when pushing Cap & Trade policy. This got defeated in during the 111th Congress which had a Democratic majority by the way. He’s continuing to push this agenda by resurrecting Cap & Trade through EPA regulation. High gas prices help this agenda.
Obama has shoveled billions of dollars into subsidized green energy initiatives. The problem is, these programs can’t stand on their own, people aren’t willing to buy them without government rebates (payoffs) and they don’t produce close the Kilowatt-Hours of conventional Energy Sources. Ethanol, solar and Wind Turbine are all examples of this.
Subsidizing the current solutions is not putting enough impetus on better green solutions. Switch grass ethanol would be close to if not competitive with petroleum fuels. The focus on corn ethanol is not efficient, not competitive and is burning our food. What we don’t burn is going up in price partly because of it. We used to be the breadbasket of the world until ethanol. The focus on compact fluorescent bulbs is crowding out the better technology of solid state lighting or high-intesity LEDs. Wind farms will never come close to providing anywhere near the power generated by Coal-fired plants. Their only hope for making a dent in power production is when room temperature superconducting cable is developed. The list goes on.
Conservatives want renewables, they just don’t want to hurt the economy to get there. There are breakthroughs in energy tech every week. Until green energy can compete in the marketplace, it needs to stay in the lab, maturing. Donations and investment by the private sector is encouraged. It is a huge potential source for funding. Unfortunately, the current stock of Liberals want government to be the answer to all our problems and private sector anything is not encouraged or even dismantled as not to compete with the government “help”.
R&D labs, with private donations and investment can get to the green energy horizon. Until then, Conservatives want more conventional energy solutions to be the bridge that gets us there. Conservatives want the shackles removed from drilling. The US has coal reserves to last hundreds of years and more natural gas than Saudi Arabia has oil. There is absolutely no reason why we have to shoot ourselves in the foot as we work on Renewable Forms Of Energy.
