where does Electricity come from?
hi i need to do this project for school wondering if peeps could help, this is what i need to do!
to get a level 5 i need 2:
draw a diagram explaining how electricity can be generated using Coal
draw a diagram explaining how electricity can be generated using wind
described the difference between Renewable And Non Renewable Resources
explained the original source of coal and wind
on the diagrams labeled some useful transfers.
level 6
all the same apart from need to add
described some advantages and disadvantages of using each energy resource
level 7
same as before but diagrams need to be detailed, labels need to be accurate, and need to make everything more detailed.
thanks
please do not put anything like do ur own hmwrk because that is not helpful
Simply put, electricity is electrons being pumped through wires. The simplest ‘pump’ is a loop of metal wire in which a magnet rotates; the magnetic field pushes the electrons through the wire. This we call a generator or dynamo.
A Wind Turbine is (in its simplest form) a fan blade connected to a generator (they usually have gearing between the fan and generator, for larger Wind Turbines the angle of the blades can be changed and of course the whole wind turbine (top) can be rotated.
To generate electricity using coal you need a powerplant; burn the coal to turn water into steam, use the steam in a steam turbine to make the turbine rotor spin, use that to turn a generator. The simplest steam turbine – called a Curtis wheel – is a special nozzle that turns the thermal energy of the steam into kinetic energy (basically it makes the steam reach a VERY high speed) that directs the steam on to the turbine blades set into the rim of a wheel.
The biggest problem with windpower is that the wind usually blows when you don’t need it and doesn’t blow when you do, so you need to have a way to store electricity. But other than that, apart from the cost of buying the wind turbine etcetera, wind energy is FREE.
